Barbara Kruger’s first solo institutional exhibition in London in 23 years opened today at the Serpentine South gallery. The exhibition features a selection of moving image works, installations and multiple soundscapes across the gallery. It will also extend beyond the gallery walls to Outernet Arts on selected Monday evenings from 4th March to 20th May.
The exhibition is not a traditional retrospective, but rather an “anti-retrospective” that recontextualizes Kruger’s iconic pieces for the contemporary world. Expect a dynamic and thought-provoking journey through her artistic lens
Devoted to the exploration of visual culture and image production. Kruger is known for her work with imager and words, frequently borrowing from the languages of advertising, graphic design and magazines. Her practice often explores complex mechanisms of power, gender, class and capital.
