Mike Kelley’s first major UK exhibition at Tate Modern will explore his influential and experimental artistic practice. Known for his “dark pop art,” Kelley used his works to examine societal roles, belief systems, and institutional structures. The exhibition will feature early performances, installations, and sculptures that delve into themes such as absence, ritual, identity, popular culture, and memory. Highlights include the unnerving “The Poltergeist,” the dynamic “Monkey Island” and “Half a Man” installations, and the thought-provoking “More Love Hours Than Can Ever Be Repaid,” “The Wages of Sin,” and “Ahh…Youth!” series. Additionally, the exhibition will showcase Kelley’s exploration of memory and belief systems through his “Educational Complex” and “Extracurricular Activity Projective Reconstructions” projects, as well as his iconic “Kandors” series. Overall, the exhibition will offer a comprehensive overview of Kelley’s influential and provocative artistic practice.
